FALSE
Context

Trump made this claim repeatedly during his 2024 campaign, including at rallies and in social media posts, claiming crime was at historic highs under the Biden administration.

The Truth

The murder rate in the United States peaked in 1980 at 10.2 per 100,000 people and again in 1991 at 9.8 per 100,000. In 2023, the murder rate was approximately 6.3 per 100,000, well below the historic peaks. FBI data shows violent crime has been declining, not increasing to record levels.
